Aviation Investment Summit: Aviation Sector Financing and Islamic Finance

We were grateful to be invited to deliver a presentation on Aviation Sector Financing and Islamic Finance to the inaugural Aviation Investment Summit hosted by the General Civil Aviation Authority of the UAE (GCAA). This biennial event, which took place during Dubai Airshow 2015, brought together aviation sector businesses looking for investment with prospective investors.
The presentation considered the use of Islamic finance to fund projects in the aviation sector to date. Whilst by no means a mainstream method of raising or managing finance, Islamic finance structures have been successfully utilised in respect of aviation sector projects in the region for about ten years. Accordingly, in many instances, Islamic finance is a viable alternative to more convention methods of financing.
Despite some challenges that remain, we argued that the outlook was generally positive for the greater use of Islamic finance in the aviation sector; not just in the Gulf or Islamic countries, but the world over. We look forward to seeing this industry develop further.
The presentation has now been adapted for publication, and can be found in the December issue of The Oath magazine.
